[singlepic id=107 w=185 float=left]Finnegan Jones, a sophomore at Grant High School, has played upright bass since the fall of 2012 and joined the American Music Program’s Pacific Crest Orchestra during the fall of 2015. For the past two years he has been playing upright bass in a combo under the instruction of Derek Sims at the Alan Jones Academy of Music. Finn also performs with “The Innovation Project”, a jazz trio organized by high school students from the Portland metropolitan area.
Finnegan currently studies with Dan Schulte. Previously, he studied upright and electric bass with Leah Hinchcliff. He has attended the Mel Brown Summer Jazz Camp, and the University of Oregon Jazz Improvisation Camp where his playing was recognized and awarded a tuition scholarship for his performance. Additionally, Finn was recognized at the Clackamas Community College H.S. Jazz competition for outstanding musicianship.
With many performances scheduled for the months ahead with AMP, Finnegan’s history of performances already includes Jimmy Mak’s, Jazz at the Oxford (Bend, Or.), the 2015 Montavilla Jazz Festival, The Portland School Foundation Annual Fundraiser at the Moda Center, Wordstock for Portland Literary Arts at the Porltand Art Museum, Movies in the Park for Portland Parks and Recreation, Arrivederci’s and various private functions.
